THE VIRTUE AND REWARDS OF ALLAH ALMIGHTY

The virtues and reward of praising Allah Almighty.
• Sayyiduna Abu Malik Al Ash’ari (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the
Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said, “Cleanliness is half of faith, the
words ‘Al-hamdu Lillah’ fills the scale and the words ‘Al-hamdu Lillah’ and ‘Subhan
Allah’ fills the entire space between the earth and heavens”. (Saheeh Muslim)
What we understand from the above Hadith is that if the words ‘Al-hamdu Lillah’
were to be given a physical form, then the reward of saying these words is such that
it would fill the scales in which our actions will be weighed in the hereafter.
• Sayyidun Samarah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet
Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said, “There are four words after Al-Qur’an AlKareem that are the most virtuous. Those words are also in the Qur’an and they can
be read in any order. They are ‘Subhan Allah’, ‘Al-hamdu Lillah’, ‘Laa ilaaha ilallah’
and ‘Allahu Akbar’”. (Musnad Ahmad)
• ‘Amr ibn Shu’ayb narrates from his father who narrates from his grandfather that the
Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said, “The one who recites ‘Subhan Allah’
100 times in the morning and 100 times in the evening, it is as if he has performed
the Hajj 100 times. The one who recites ‘Al-hamdu Lillah’ 100 times in the morning
and 100 times in the evening, it is as if he has provided 100 horses that are to be
used in fighting in the way of Allah”. (Jaami-‘ut-Tirmizi)
• Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) says that “saying
‘Al-hamdu Lillah’ is thanking Allah Almighty, obeying him and accepting and
appreciating his blessings and guidance”. (Jaami-‘ul-Bayaan)
• The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said, “When you say ‘Al-hamdu Lillah’,
you are thanking Allah Almighty and in return he blesses you with more”. (Jammi-‘ulBayaan)
• Sayyiduna Anas Ibn Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) says that “the individual
who says the words ‘Al-hamdu Lillah’ upon receiving a blessing from Allah Almighty,
then Allah Almighty blesses him with a greater blessing than before.” (Tafseer
Qurtubi)
• Sayyiduna Anas Ibn Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet
Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said that, “If an individual is given the entire world,
and another is blessed with the ability to say ‘Al-hamdu Lillah’, then the ability to be
able to say ‘Al-hamdu Lillah is better than the whole world.” (Tafseer Qurtubi)

Translated from Tafseer Tibyan Al-Qur’an of ‘Allamah Ghulam Rasool Sa’eedi (May Allah have mercy on him)
